FAQ

Could it be it illegal to be a member or to participate on VoA where I live?

Very unlikely.

VoA is visited by people from all over the world. Because American and Canadian laws are amongst the most conservative, we have chosen to use these laws as the basis of the guidelines under which we operate. In truth, our guidelines are even a little more conservative. We do this so that VoA remains a safe haven for all.

Could I somehow get in any kind of trouble by participating on VoA?

Possibly, yes.

Some participants on this and other Girl-Love websites have had their real identities uncovered because they publicly and carelessly shared identifying details, or because their computers were accessed by someone at home or someone saw them visiting VoA in a public library, sometimes leading to harassment both on-line as in real life.

I may still be a bit scared. Are there additional steps I can take regarding my privacy and anonymity?

Yes, you can.

The ‘ToR Browser Bundle’ is a ready-made (though slow) free anonymity solution for Windows, Macintosh and Unix and it includes a safe clean browser.

The ‘ToR Browser Bundle’ is available for download here:

Others might choose to use a ‘proxy server’:

Also, to help protect your privacy, you can choose to encrypt the data on your computer:

Why can I not send a Personal Message to another member?

The Personal Messaging system is disabled for new members.

I have gotten to know a poster fairly well and would like to be able to email securely. Any tips?

At one point or another, you may want to have an alternative email address to make contact with another poster outside of VoA because it is ill advised to use any address which might lead to your identity.

A list of safe email providers is available here:

You can also choose to encrypt your emails by using software such as PGP:

Feel free to use the PM (Personal Messaging) system on VoA to send your email or instant messenger address to another member, but do not post those addresses on the public board.

What if I want to chat with someone anonymously and privately?

A current anonymous and private instant messaging program (chatting one on one in real time) is torchat:

The advantage of torchat is that neither party can see the others IP address and the contents of the messages are encrypted.

A comparison of alternative instant messaging clients is available here:

Can someone please talk to me now?

If you feel in immediate danger of hurting yourself or others, please consult your local hot-line. They are there for you.
Organizations and initiatives such as b4uact and lifeline-chat may also help assist you in the right direction:

Are there any other safe Girl-Love forums, perhaps in my language?
